The land
Coastal peninsula with rainforests — Caribbean beaches, Pacific coast, cloud forests, seventy percent protected territory. One of only two maritime regions of the Republic (with Oriente Moderno): it has genuine sea coasts, small-boat fisheries, and a stake in maritime law.
A narrow isthmus with both a Caribbean and a Pacific coast, a central spine of rainforest-clad mountains, and two notable peninsulas (Osa and Nicoya equivalents).
