The grant, announced yesterday by Zandor Systems CEO Katrin Svensson, will fund a 4,500-square-metre laboratory in the city's innovation district. The facility will house fifty researchers and engineers focused on machine translation between Esperanto and the Republic's four regional working languages, as well as major international languages.

The Federal Translation Centre, headquartered in Meridian, operates translation services for the Federal Assembly, the courts, and the diaspora of virtual citizens. The Centre's current infrastructure relies on a combination of human translators and legacy software systems; the new laboratory will modernise the technical stack and train the next generation of computational linguists.

Svensson said the investment reflects 'Nord Europa's position as the Republic's software heartland' and Zandor Systems' commitment to 'Esperanto as a living, evolving language.' The Centre's director, Dr. Elsa Bergman, called the grant 'transformative' but also hinted at tensions within the Centre about the role of artificial intelligence in translation work.
