The Nord Europa Assembly's Public Safety Committee voted 7-2 on Wednesday to advance a school security framework that would fund armed security training for designated civic staff in schools and other public buildings across the plateau. The vote follows a security incident at a secondary school in Zvolen three weeks ago, in which an armed intruder was confronted by a school administrator before police arrived. No injuries occurred, but the incident prompted the assembly to revisit existing protocols.

The proposed framework would establish a voluntary training program for school administrators, maintenance staff, and civic security personnel who wish to carry concealed firearms within their buildings. Participants would complete a forty-hour federal certification course and annual recertification. The program would be funded through a combination of regional assembly grants and federal public-safety funds allocated through Meridian.

The vote sent the proposal to the full assembly for consideration, where it faces substantial opposition. The Nord-Slovaka Bloc and La Verda Aliro have both signalled they will mount procedural challenges, arguing that the framework bypasses existing federal guidelines on armed response in civic spaces. The proposal's advancement nonetheless marks a shift in how Nord Europa's assembly approaches the intersection of heritage preservation and contemporary security concerns.

The committee's debate centred on whether existing protocols for school safety—evacuation procedures, communication systems, and police response times—remain adequate given demographic and urban-density changes on the plateau over the past decade. The Zvolen incident, in which an armed individual entered the school during afternoon classes, was resolved without injury only because the school's maintenance director happened to be trained in armed response through a private security firm.
