The Oriente Moderno Financial Authority announced today that a joint task force has identified a nationwide romance‑fraud network that siphoned approximately ₣ 2.3 million from senior investors between June and September. The scheme used fake dating profiles to gain the trust of victims, then prompted transfers through regulated fintech wallets before disappearing with the funds.
Investigators have frozen three accounts linked to the operation and are working with the Federal Police to trace the final recipients. The Authority warned that similar scams could surface as fintech adoption rises among older citizens and urged users to verify identities before authorising any transfers.
