Residents reported shaking for thirty seconds and minor damage to older warehouses. The Federal Seismic Agency confirmed no casualties, but the tremor exceeded design thresholds for the port’s berths.
The Port Authority of Nueva Singapur immediately ordered a suspension of all berthing operations. Container vessels queued offshore, and the port’s throughput dropped to forty percent of its normal daily volume. The Authority’s spokesperson, Jin Tao, said inspections would begin within two hours and that the deep‑water berth would remain closed until structural integrity is verified.
Federal Treasury Minister Marcus Eklund briefed the Assembly, noting that the disruption could shave €12 million from the quarterly freight‑revenue forecast. The Oriente Moderno Financial Authority warned that settlement delays might push cross‑border fintech transactions up by 3.5 percent in the next week.
Regional Governor Daniel Park convened an emergency task force that includes the Port Authority, the Federal Emergency Management Office, and the city’s civil‑defence unit. The task force will present a recovery schedule to the Federal Assembly’s Infrastructure Committee by 5 September. Officials anticipate that full operations could resume within three weeks, pending safety clearance.
