The deep‑water berth’s schedule for the week was thrown into disarray on Tuesday when a citywide power fault knocked out electricity across Nueva Singapur. Vessels slated to dock between 0800 and 1700 UTC were ordered to hold at anchorage, adding an estimated 18,000 tonnes of delayed cargo to the backlog. The Port Authority reported that the first two berths remained idle for twelve hours before generators could be brought online.

The outage originated from a transformer station on the eastern side of the city’s grid, where a cooling‑system failure caused a cascade of protective shutdowns. Engineers from the Federal Interior Ministry confirmed that the fault isolated the industrial zone that supplies power to the port complex, leaving the main gantry cranes without traction. As a result, twenty‑four twenty‑foot containers scheduled for the Asia‑Europe line were rerouted to the secondary dock in Costa Mar, incurring additional handling fees.

The Port Authority’s spokesperson, Aiko Tan, said the authority has activated emergency protocols and is working with the Federal Treasury to secure interim funding for affected shippers. Treasury Minister Marcus Eklund indicated that a temporary fiscal package of ₣ 12 million will be released to offset extra bunker‑fuel costs incurred by vessels forced to idle. Governor Daniel Park pledged that regional crews will expedite repairs, targeting full power restoration by Friday evening. The Herald will follow the unfolding response and its impact on next week’s cargo volumes.
