The Port Authority of Nueva Singapur began a 90-day trial of automated container inspection at Berth 7 this morning, using high-resolution scanning systems to screen cargo without manual opening. The authority said the trial covers 500 containers per day and could cut average inspection times by 30 percent if successful.
The trial follows a shipping incident in June that prompted a tightening of port security protocols. A full rollout would require federal approval, which the authority said it would seek in the fourth quarter.
