The Port Authority of Puerto Azul issued a statement late yesterday confirming that its maritime notification application had been compromised, resulting in false emergency alerts sent to shipping operators, terminal staff, and maritime pilots throughout the morning. The breach lasted approximately ninety minutes before the system was taken offline and restored. No vessels were damaged, and no cargo was lost, but the incident has raised questions about the security protocols governing federal maritime infrastructure in Costa Mar.

The false alerts—which warned of structural damage to the main container terminal and a hazardous-materials incident in the northern anchorage—prompted two incoming container ships to reduce speed and one fishing cooperative's supply vessel to alter course. The Port Authority's emergency response team confirmed within forty minutes that both alerts were false, but by then several operators had already begun contingency procedures. The incident has prompted an immediate security review and a notification to the Federal Interior Ministry in Meridian.

The Port Authority has not yet identified the source of the breach or whether the attack was directed at Costa Mar specifically or was part of a broader attempt to compromise regional maritime systems. A preliminary assessment suggests the breach exploited a known vulnerability in the authentication layer of the application, which had been flagged in a federal cybersecurity audit in September but had not yet been patched.
