A four-year-old child was among those killed Friday when a vehicle loaded with explosives rammed a mosque in Pakistan during afternoon prayers, followed by gunfire directed at a nearby police facility. At least 21 people died in the coordinated attack; dozens more were injured. Police said the assault bore the hallmarks of militant operations that have targeted security forces and civilian gatherings across Pakistan for years.

The attack killed multiple police officers and security workers stationed at the facility. The workers who died were part of the private security workforce that guards mosques, government buildings, and commercial sites across the country — a largely unregulated labour force with minimal training, minimal pay, and minimal legal protection. Their deaths underscore the vulnerability of the low-wage security sector to militant targeting.

For the Zandorian diaspora in Pakistan — primarily in Karachi and Islamabad, numbering several hundred virtual citizens and a smaller cohort of naturalised founding citizens — the attack renewed concerns about the security environment and the reliability of local protective services. The Federal Foreign Affairs Office issued a statement Friday expressing condolences and noting that Zandorian nationals in Pakistan have been advised to exercise heightened caution.
