The monitoring network released a quarterly report on Thursday documenting elevated stress markers in reef sections within two kilometers of the main northbound and southbound shipping lanes. The stress includes bleaching events, reduced polyp extension, and lower calcification rates in several species of branching coral. The network's researchers attribute the patterns to a combination of acoustic pressure from large vessel propellers and nutrient runoff from ballast-water discharge and hull-coating shedding.

Container traffic through the waters between Costa Mar and Oriente Moderno has increased by 31 percent since 2023, according to port authority records from Nueva Singapur. The Federal Hydro Authority's container terminal—operated by Federacia Renovigo–affiliated port operators—handles approximately 2.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units annually, making it one of the hemisphere's busiest free-trade zones. Most container traffic destined for markets in Tierra Verde and Nord Europa passes through the shipping lanes that run along Costa Mar's western reef system.

The reef monitoring network's findings have prompted a request from Governor Adeyemi's office to the Federal Interior Ministry for an update on the ongoing technical inquiry into the 2024 grounding of the container ship Prospero. That incident, which occurred when the vessel lost propulsion in heavy weather and drifted onto a reef outcropping, caused an estimated 1.2 million florins in damage to coral habitat. The inquiry has been ongoing for eighteen months; no final report has been released.
