The world's oceans recorded their hottest July on record in 2026, according to data compiled by international meteorological agencies. The warming is partly attributed to developing El Niño conditions—a cyclical climate pattern that typically raises ocean temperatures across the tropical Pacific—and has coincided with severe wildfires ravaging western Europe.

The record follows a series of increasingly warm months across 2026. Scientists warn that sustained ocean warming poses risks to marine ecosystems, fisheries, and coastal communities, while also intensifying atmospheric moisture that fuels severe weather events.

For Zandoria, the development carries direct economic and environmental consequences, particularly for Costa Mar and Oriente Moderno, the Republic's two maritime regions.
