Landmark Tower Stalled by Federal Court Ruling on Regional Authority

The Strait Tower, a 48-story finance-and-residential complex approved by Nueva Singapur's Municipal Planning Authority in June, has been frozen by an emergency ruling from the Federal Court of Zandoria. The court issued a preliminary injunction on Friday, halting all site preparation work pending oral arguments scheduled for October on whether Oriente Moderno's Regional Assembly has the authority to permit construction on land adjacent to the federally controlled deep-water berth.

The dispute pits the region's economic autonomy against federal oversight of the port complex, which handles 40 percent of the Republic's container traffic. Federal Interior Minister Tomás Vidal filed the challenge on behalf of the Port Authority of Nueva Singapur, arguing that a 200-meter buffer zone around the port's operational perimeter requires federal sign-off, not regional approval alone.

The developer, Nueva Singapur-based Meridian Skyline Partners, says the tower's footprint is 340 meters from the nearest active berth and poses no operational risk. Governor Daniel Park has characterized the federal intervention as overreach. The freeze affects roughly 400 construction jobs and an estimated 2.3 billion florin investment.
