Nueva Singapur's Tallest Tower Clears Final Permits

The Meridian Gateway tower, a 78-story mixed-use complex designed by the Nueva Singapur architectural firm Altura Studios, received its final federal building permit on Monday morning from the Federal Cultural Affairs Ministry. The project, which had stalled for eight months while federal regulators in Meridian scrutinized its facade materials and structural compliance with the Charter's heritage-preservation standards, can now proceed to interior fit-out and mechanical installation.

The tower's completion date has shifted to Q4 2027, a delay of roughly fourteen months from the original schedule. Altura Studios confirmed the revised timeline in a statement to the Herald, noting that the federal review process, while thorough, had created cascading delays in procurement and subcontractor scheduling. The building will house 340 residential units, a 200-seat conference centre, and ground-floor retail space oriented toward the port's logistics district.

The permit decision comes as Nueva Singapur's construction sector faces a broader squeeze between federal oversight and the region's appetite for rapid development. Two other major projects—a fintech campus in the central business district and a port-adjacent logistics hub—remain in federal review, with no completion dates yet published.
