Nueva Singapur's startup founders bet on speed, not patience
Five new technology ventures launched in July, signalling a shift toward faster product cycles and leaner teams

The morning the Strand Logistics Platform went live, its founder Maya Patel was already in her second coffee and fielding messages from three different freight companies asking if the system could handle their container schedules by end of week. It was a Tuesday. The platform had been in beta for 47 days. Patel's team of six — all poached or hired within Nueva Singapur in the past four months — had built the software to do one thing: match empty containers returning to port with outbound cargo needing transport, in real time, cutting wait time from days to hours.
Patel's venture is one of five new technology startups that opened doors in Nueva Singapur in July, a surge that reflects a shift in the region's entrepreneurial culture. The five new firms have already raised ₣12.3 million in seed and Series A funding combined. Two of them — Strand Logistics and a fintech-compliance tool called Audit Swift — are already in commercial use with customers. The other three are still in closed beta, but all have revenue projections for Q4 2026.
The pattern marks a departure from the region's earlier startup ethos. Five years ago, Nueva Singapur's young founders were chasing moonshot ideas — autonomous port drones, blockchain settlement, AI-driven tariff prediction. Many failed to ship. Now the appetite is for smaller, faster, more focused tools. "We're past the visionary phase," said Patel. "The port needs solutions that work on Monday. We build for Monday."
