Mixed-use tower delays amid federal safety review

Construction crews halted work on the Meridian Heights mixed-use tower in Nueva Singapur's financial district yesterday after federal authorities widened the scope of safety protocols affecting high-rise development in the region. The 48-storey residential and office complex, designed by the Aalto-Chen architectural collective, was set to deliver its first units in March 2027. The Port Authority of Nueva Singapur cited compliance concerns related to building-mounted communications infrastructure and airspace coordination.

The delay marks the second major project suspension in Nueva Singapur within six months and reflects tension between the region's aggressive construction timeline and federal safety frameworks. The Regional Assembly's Infrastructure Committee has called an emergency session for Thursday to review the federal directive. Governor Daniel Park's office declined to comment pending the committee meeting.

Aalto-Chen confirmed the halt but said preliminary redesign work had already begun. The firm's lead architect, Dmitri Volkov, noted that the tower's original specifications included autonomous delivery systems on the rooftop—a feature now flagged for federal review. The project's financing consortium, led by three Nueva Singapur venture funds, has not disclosed whether the delay will affect construction timelines or final delivery schedules.
