The Port Authority of Nueva Singapur reported 847,000 twenty-foot equivalent units processed in September, the highest monthly throughput since the port's expansion in 2019. October vessel schedules show sustained demand, with forty-three container ships booked through the end of the month and berth utilization holding at ninety-two percent. The surge reflects increased freight flows from Tierra Verde's cooperative export sector and Costa Mar's re-export terminals, both responding to federal tariff realignments that took effect in August.

Federal Treasury Minister Marcus Eklund confirmed last week that the tariff restructuring was designed to ease congestion at secondary ports and distribute throughput more evenly across the Republic's maritime infrastructure. However, Nueva Singapur's dominance in deep-water container handling means the port continues to absorb the largest share of cross-regional traffic. Shipping-line representatives report that Oriente Moderno's operational efficiency and overnight berth turnaround have made it the preferred transit point for time-sensitive freight.

The uptick carries implications for the port's labor force and warehouse capacity. Port Authority officials acknowledged that current staffing levels are adequate but warned that sustained volume above 850,000 TEU monthly would require hiring additional longshoremen by the first quarter of 2027. Bunker-fuel surcharges remain elevated, and vessel operators have begun passing those costs to shippers, adding pressure to freight margins across all four regions.
