Nueva Singapur port logs 1.38 million containers in July-August surge

The Port Authority of Nueva Singapur cleared 1.38 million containers across July and August, the highest two-month throughput in the facility's history, as vessel arrivals resumed at full schedule following the monsoon season. The surge reflects a return to normal operations after three weeks of reduced berth access in late June, when weather conditions forced the temporary rerouting of regional shipping lanes.

Overnight settlement volumes at the Oriente Moderno Financial Authority reached 9.8 billion florins on August 3, driven by the acceleration of container-linked trade financing and bunker-fuel purchases tied to the port's expanded throughput. The Port Authority attributed the acceleration to the stabilization of shipping schedules across the Strait and to a 4 percent reduction in average dwell time for inbound containers.

The facility's three deep-water berths operated at 94 percent capacity during the peak days of early August, with 47 vessel arrivals recorded in the week of July 29. Port Authority officials said the performance validated the automated container-inspection system trialled in June, which has reduced average processing time per container by 2.3 minutes.
