Bunker shortage forces Nueva Singapur port to stagger berth schedules

The Port Authority of Nueva Singapur announced a staggered berth schedule beginning Monday, citing insufficient bunker-fuel inventory to sustain the usual three-shift container operations. The shortage follows a planned maintenance outage at Costa Mar's sole marine refinery, which supplies approximately forty percent of the Republic's bunker stock. Port officials said the constraint is temporary, but the timing collides with the autumn shipping surge.

Vessel operators have begun routing calls to offshore fueling stations in international waters, adding three to five hours to typical turnaround times. The Federal Exchange overnight trading volume fell 12 percent on Monday as shipping-line representatives repositioned hedges against delayed revenue recognition. One major carrier, Océano Lines, delayed three scheduled arrivals by twenty-four hours rather than absorb the cost of offshore bunkering.

The Port Authority said the stagger affects approximately 8,000 containers per day—roughly seventeen percent of the usual throughput. Meridian's Federal Treasury Minister has opened an expedited review of emergency fuel-import protocols, signalling concern that the disruption could ripple into other regions' supply chains. The Costa Mar refinery is expected to resume full capacity by October 15.
