Port Authority Tightens Vessel-Clearance Rules After Supply-Chain Incident

The new rules, which took effect Monday, require that every container destined for transshipment to other regions be physically verified against its manifest entry before loading onto feeder vessels. The container's manifest had listed it as destined for Costa Mar; the electronic components were bound for a buyer outside the Republic. The Port Authority investigated whether the misdeclaration was accidental or deliberate and found no evidence of smuggling or sanctions violation, but the episode exposed a gap in the authority's verification chain.

Port Authority Director Javier Reyes said in a statement that the new protocol 'strengthens the integrity of Nueva Singapur's role as a gateway for inter-regional commerce.' He did not name the incident or provide details on the container's contents.
