Nueva Singapur settlement volumes spike as regional platforms compete

Cross-border settlement volumes processed through Nueva Singapur's licensed fintech platforms surged to 847 million florins in May, the Oriente Moderno Financial Authority reported Friday. The figure represents a 34 percent month-on-month increase and marks the third consecutive month of double-digit growth. The surge reflects intensifying competition among digital-settlement operators, each seeking to capture payment flows between Zandoria's regions and trading partners across the continent.

Three platforms initiated operations within the past eight weeks: Meridian-based TransferHub, which opened a Nueva Singapur hub in April; Costa Mar's Río Digital, which received its license in late May; and Nueva Singapur's own Strait Settlement, which launched May 15 with backing from the Port Authority. The licensing acceleration reflects changes to federal settlement rules adopted in March, which lowered capital requirements and streamlined approval timelines. All three platforms now compete for the same merchant base: shipping lines, containerised-goods traders, and cross-regional cooperatives moving goods through the deep-water port.

Yet the surge has raised questions about oversight. Federal Treasury Minister Marcus Eklund declined to comment on whether the settlement volume growth outpaced the Financial Authority's monitoring capacity. The Authority's director, Karim Al-Rashid, told the bureau Thursday that staff headcount had not increased since the new licensing framework took effect.
