A coalition of fifteen software and manufacturing firms sent a letter to the Nord Europa Assembly on June 8th warning that rising anti-migrant rhetoric is damaging the region's ability to recruit engineers and skilled workers from across the Republic and beyond. The letter, released to the Herald, cites specific incidents: job candidates from Costa Mar withdrawing applications after reading Assembly debate transcripts, visa-renewal delays for foreign specialists, and informal pressure on companies to prioritise hiring Nord Europa-born workers.
The firms, which collectively employ more than 8,000 people in Bratislava-Nova and the surrounding technology corridor, argue that the region's competitive advantage depends on access to talent that is not available in Nord Europa's labour market alone. Three of the signatories—Vostok Systems, Metamor Consulting, and Tatra Digital—have announced plans to expand operations in Nueva Singapur, where Oriente Moderno's government has made explicit offers of tax incentives for tech firms relocating from other regions.
The letter arrives amid broader political turbulence in Nord Europa. The Nord-Slovaka Bloko, the region's largest opposition party, has made anti-migrant sentiment a centrepiece of its platform ahead of the March 2027 federal election. Party leader Karol Lindqvist has called for stricter residency requirements before migrants can access regional services and has questioned whether federal hiring quotas should apply to private-sector firms.
The Assembly's response is expected this month, with a likely debate scheduled for late June that will test the governing coalition's willingness to defend open hiring practices against populist pressure.
