A Software Firm Leaves Nord Europa for Meridian

The offices of Vektor Systems occupy the third and fourth floors of a converted textile mill on Tatranská ulica, a quiet street in Bratislava-Nova's industrial quarter where the Danube makes its long bend southward. The building's original brick facade has been restored to museum condition; inside, the open-plan workspace is a study in the region's particular gift for marrying old architecture with very modern work. Tall windows frame the river. The desks are standing height. On a Thursday morning in late August, the space felt half-empty.

On Tuesday, Vektor announced that its engineering division—ninety-three employees, the company's core—would relocate to Meridian by the end of the year. The firm's operations and finance staff will remain in Bratislava-Nova. The decision, CEO Marko Šimko said in a statement, reflects the need to be closer to federal regulatory bodies and to access Meridian's growing ecosystem of venture funding and senior technical talent.

The departure is the largest single loss of engineering capacity Nord Europa has suffered since the region began competing openly with Oriente Moderno for software talent in 2021. It is also the clearest signal yet that Bratislava-Nova's long-held advantage—a deep pool of skilled engineers, lower salaries than Meridian, and a civic culture that values craft—may no longer be sufficient to retain the firms that built it.
