Federal Hiring Freeze Hits Nord Europa Civil Service

The Federal Treasury announced a hiring freeze across all federal agencies effective immediately, halting recruitment rounds that were to place three new senior federal officials in Nord Europa posts by year-end. Prime Minister Doric's office framed the measure as a fiscal precaution ahead of the March 2027 election; Federal Treasury Minister Marcus Eklund said in a statement that the freeze would preserve federal reserves while the Assembly debates the Suffrage Question and Youth Charter amendments.

The freeze affects two posts in particular: a Federal Data Protection Officer whose office was to oversee compliance with Nord Europa's own civic data codes, and a Deputy Minister for Federal AI Governance, a role the region had negotiated as part of the ongoing tension between Meridian's regulatory framework and Nord Europa's pre-emptive local standards.

The Assembly's Civil Service Committee chair, Kristjan Sævarsson, told reporters that the freeze creates a "procedural vacuum" at a moment when Nord Europa is preparing for federal audits of its heritage-restoration funding and its tech-sector wage-pressure initiatives. Governor Novák said she has requested an exemption for the two posts, citing the region's status as the Republic's largest software-employment centre and the need for stable federal representation in data governance.
