Nord Europa Faces Recruitment Crisis as Federal Posts Empty

The Federal Interior Ministry has quietly begun consolidating administrative functions in Meridian, a shift that has left Nord Europa's federal offices short-staffed and unable to fill positions under the constitutional hiring quota that guarantees each region proportional representation in the federal civil service. Three senior roles in the Nord Europa Federal Heritage Office have sat vacant for more than four months, and the Federal Electoral Commission's regional coordinator position remains open since April, according to internal memos reviewed by the Herald.

The movement reflects a broader pattern: as Meridian's federal workforce has expanded to accommodate new regulatory bodies—including the recently established Federal Civic Affairs Directorate—recruitment has slowed in the regions. Nord Europa's federal payroll has contracted by approximately eight percent over the past eighteen months, even as the Republic's overall federal headcount has grown.

The tension touches on one of the founding Republic's core commitments: that no region should bear a disproportionate cost for federal consolidation. The Federal Council, which guards inter-regional balance, has not yet formally raised the matter, but Nord Europa's four Council members are expected to press the issue when the Assembly reconvenes in September.
