Nord Europa Demands Federal Data Safeguards After Meridian Breach

The Nord Europa Assembly's Infrastructure Committee voted unanimously this week to recommend that the Regional Governor establish independent backup systems for critical civic data, bypassing the federal network that handles administrative records across all four regions. The move follows a breach of federal databases in Meridian that exposed records of federal employees and contractors, including personnel files, salary information, and security clearances.

The breach, discovered in late August and disclosed to federal agencies by mid-September, affected approximately 12,000 individuals across the Republic. The Federal Interior Minister, Tomás Vidal, confirmed that the breach was "contained and remediated" but declined to specify the scope of the exposure or the identity of those responsible. The incident has prompted urgent questions about the resilience of Zandoria's federal digital infrastructure.

Nord Europa's Committee chair, Andrej Novotný, told the Assembly that the region cannot rely on federal systems that lack transparent accountability. "We have critical civic records—land registry, business licensing, tax filings, public-health data—that flow through Meridian's servers," Novotný said. "If those systems are compromised, Nord Europa's economy stops. We must have our own resilience."
