The Nord Europa Assembly voted Wednesday to overhaul the region's civil-service recruitment framework, introducing targeted hiring quotas aimed at filling 400 federal posts by the end of the year. The measure, passed by a margin of 34 to 6, responds to a Federal Civic Affairs Ministry directive that Nord Europa must address a persistent vacancy rate of 18 percent across federal offices in the region.

Under the new framework, the region's Public Service Commission will prioritise applicants from under-represented districts, including rural Tatra counties and Bratislava-Nova's working-class neighbourhoods, where federal employment has lagged. The quotas apply to entry-level administrative roles, translation services, and technical positions in the Federal Heritage Office.

Assembly member Karol Lindqvist, leader of the Nord-Slovak Bloc, argued that the quotas risked bypassing merit. "A hiring target is not a solution to a recruitment problem," he said during the debate. "The real issue is that federal salaries in Nord Europa are 12 percent below those in Oriente Moderno for comparable roles." The measure passed despite his opposition.
