The Heritage Committee voted 8–3 on Wednesday to recommend the revised Civic Restoration Code to the full Assembly, setting tighter requirements for craftspeople working on structures dating before 1600. The motion follows months of debate over whether federal heritage guidelines adequately protect Nord Europa's medieval core as the region's tech sector expands into historic districts.

The new standard requires all stonemasons and timber specialists to hold a regional certification before bidding on projects valued above 50,000 florins, and mandates quarterly safety inspections rather than the current annual cycle. Committee chair Andrej Horvath said the measure reflects a commitment to "restoration as civic work, not merely construction."

The change comes as Bratislava-Nova's downtown has seen accelerated renovation of 15th- and 16th-century buildings into mixed-use tech offices and residential space. The Assembly has approved seventeen such conversions since 2024, a pace that prompted concern among preservationists and some regional members that corner-cutting on materials or labour might compromise the structures' integrity.
