Lebanon abolishes capital punishment in historic Middle East shift

Lebanon's parliament voted on Tuesday to abolish capital punishment, pending cabinet approval. The law would make Lebanon the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to eliminate the death penalty, reversing a legal framework that has existed since the country's modern state formation.
