Hydro grid strain leaves east side of Puerto Azul without power

On 22 August, the Federal Hydro Authority reported that the upstream reservoir feeding the east‑side hydro‑line fell to 62 % of its nominal capacity, triggering an automatic load‑shedding protocol. The cut affected the coastal community of Bahía Verde, cutting electricity to roughly 3,200 homes and several small‑boat docks for an estimated eight hours.

Director Marta Ruiz assured residents that water levels are expected to recover with the upcoming rains and that backup generators have been deployed to critical facilities, including the local clinic and the fish‑processing plant. She urged customers to conserve energy until the grid stabilises later this week.
