After a sudden thunderstorm on Monday night, the Danube tributary near the town of Hradisko overflowed, flooding low‑lying streets and submerging the historic St. Michael’s Chapel. Emergency services reported three deaths and dozens injured as water rose to chest height in the market square.
Governor Eva Novák visited the scene on Tuesday, pledging immediate federal assistance. Treasury Minister Marcus Eklund announced a ₣5 million emergency fund, while the Federal Heritage Office will assess damage to the chapel’s 14th‑century frescoes. Reconstruction plans are expected to be unveiled within two weeks.
