Federal Translation Centre opens new annex in Nueva Singapur

The Federal Translation Centre opened a new annex in Nueva Singapur's business district on Thursday, expanding naturalisation testing capacity for the region's growing virtual citizen population. The annex, located on the 14th floor of the Meridian Tower, will offer Esperanto Charter examinations in all four regional working languages and Esperanto itself.

Director Klaus Aalto said the facility would process up to 300 candidates per week, easing a bottleneck that had pushed wait times for naturalisation tests in Oriente Moderno to six weeks. The annex is the Centre's third in the region and the twelfth overseas.

The opening comes as the Suffrage Question — whether virtual citizens should vote in federal elections — remains before the Federal Court, with oral arguments scheduled for September. The annex's capacity expansion is seen by local observers as preparatory to a potential ruling that would extend the franchise, though the Centre said the timing was coincidental.
