Since the Meridian Convention, Esperanto has functioned as the sole federal lingua franca, allowing representatives from Tierra Verde, Costa Mar, Nord Europa, and Oriente Moderno to deliberate without privileging any regional tongue.

The Federal Translation Centre, under the direction of Klaus Aalto, ensures that legislative texts, judicial opinions, and public communications are rendered accurately into each region’s working language, preserving local identity while maintaining federal coherence.

Critics note that the reliance on a constructed language can create a learning curve for citizens accustomed to their native tongues, yet the very existence of a neutral medium has prevented linguistic disputes from eclipsing policy discussions in the Assembly and Council.

Our experience suggests that the continued investment in Esperanto education, supported by the Federal Treasury Minister Marcus Eklund’s budgetary allocations, sustains the Republic’s commitment to unity in diversity without sacrificing the richness of regional expression.
