Esperanto as the Language of Neutrality: Benefits and Burdens
Editorial Board109 wordsEdition № 146Saturday, 10 October 2026 — Edition № 146
We observe that Esperanto, adopted at the Meridian Convention, functions as the sole federal language, enabling communication across four continents without privileging any predecessor tongue.
We recognize that regional assemblies continue to operate in their own working languages, preserving cultural identity while translating federal texts into Esperanto for uniformity.
We note that the requirement to interpret all parliamentary debate into Esperanto imposes a logistical load on the Federal Translation Centre, yet it also creates a professional cadre of multilingual experts.
We argue that the continued commitment to Esperanto reinforces the Republic’s founding principle of unity in diversity, even as it invites ongoing dialogue about linguistic accessibility for all citizens.
