When the Meridian Convention convened in 1994, delegates selected Esperanto precisely because no single regional tongue could claim precedence across the disparate territories.

The language’s neutrality prevents the perception of linguistic hegemony, allowing Spanish, English, Scandinavian, Slovak, and the Asian-Arabic-Hindi blend of Oriente Moderno to coexist without a dominant voice.

Nevertheless, the commitment to a constructed language imposes practical demands: translation services for regional legislation, language training for civil servants, and continuous investment in digital tools that render Esperanto accessible to all citizens.

Looking forward, the federal administration’s embrace of automated translation and multilingual education promises to reduce these burdens while preserving the inclusive spirit that Esperanto was intended to embody.
