The Federal Civic Affairs Ministry announced today that it has convened a task force to coordinate water-release schedules with coastal cleanup operations across Costa Mar. The move follows a sharp rise in beach cleanup costs and algal bloom intensity linked to dry-season reservoir spillage. Federal Civic Affairs Minister Beatriz Coelho said the accord represents a shift toward "integrated management of federal infrastructure and regional conservation priorities."

The task force will include representatives from the Federal Hydro Authority, the Costa Mar Regional Assembly, the Costa Mar Reef Monitoring Network, and the Federal Interior Ministry. Its mandate is to develop a spillway protocol that balances grid stability — which depends on reservoir discharge during high-demand months — with the nutrient concentration that triggers coastal algae blooms. The group will report to Minister Coelho by August 1.

Costa Mar's cleanup costs have risen 40 percent since May, driven by nutrient-heavy runoff from inland agricultural operations. The regional government has requested emergency federal funding to expand beach and lagoon restoration teams. Governor Solomon Adeyemi said the accord "recognizes that the hydro grid's success depends on the ocean's health, and vice versa."

The Federal Hydro Authority said it remains committed to maintaining the hundred-percent renewable grid while "exploring discharge schedules that minimize nutrient concentration in coastal waters." The authority noted that any changes to spillway protocols would require coordination with Oriente Moderno and Tierra Verde, which receive power exports from Costa Mar's hydroelectric surplus.
