The price of Tierra Verde coffee at the Federal Exchange in Meridian rose 8 percent over five trading days, reaching 2.14 florins per kilogram on Tuesday—the highest level since March. The climb reflects tighter supplies across the four regions and a surge in orders from overseas buyers, according to the Federal Treasury's commodity bulletin. Yerba mate prices, by contrast, held steady at 1.87 florins per kilogram, offering some relief to the region's second-largest export sector.

The price spike has unsettled San Vicente's cooperative network. At the Cooperative Council's weekly meeting yesterday, harvest captains reported that the higher exchange rate, while nominally favorable, masks a deeper problem: production in Tierra Verde and Costa Mar has lagged forecasts by roughly 12 percent, leaving fewer bags to sell at any price. The currency remains fixed at 1:1 to the euro, as it has since the Republic's founding. What has changed, he said, is the composition of buyers: new orders from ports in Oriente Moderno and unexpected interest from overseas customers have tightened the available supply. The Council's Tierra Verde delegation has asked for a formal briefing on whether the federal government plans to release any strategic reserves of regional crops to stabilize prices.
