Bunker fuel prices rose 12 % on Wednesday after the Treasury announced a new 0.5 % shipping tariff. The price per metric ton of low‑sulphur fuel jumped from 720 florins to 808 florins at the Nueva Singapur depot, according to data released by the Port Authority.
The increase adds roughly 15 florins to the operating cost of a fully‑laden 40,000‑TEU vessel, tightening margins for carriers that already face tighter schedules. Port Authority spokesperson Aisha Rahman warned that the higher fuel bill could force some ships to delay loading, potentially nudging the weekly berth schedule back by a day.
